Small is Mighty
A Big Exhibition of Small Things
Delivering your postcards, sketchbooks and art artworks for the Small is Mighty exhibition.
There is still time to take part!
Please also remember that there will be an artists trading cards table in the exhibition where you can make and trade cards.
You can hand in your postcards for the exhibition at the Post Office.
Or please bring all items up the hill directly to me in Haven House, Higher Street – There will also be a lidded box for deliveries in our porch, which will be regularly checked.
I will be at Old Schools from 10am – 12pm on Thursday 9th June to take last minute deliveries.
Please email me at if you need more info.
- All entries to be delivered to me by Friday 3rd July please.
- Please ensure that everything you leave for the show is named or easily identifiable!
- Only the art on a postcard will be travelling to Fallowfield – not the vintage actual postcards, sketchbooks or small artworks.
- If you do not wish your art on a postcard to be exhibited elsewhere you must tell me directly or email me with a photograph of your art card/s so I am completely clear.
- Any artwork for the walls will be hung from the picture rails so must have appropriate D-rings or other similar fittings attached. No clip frames.
- Art works should be collected on the Sunday of Festival from 4 – 5pm or Monday 13th 10 -11am. The travelling art postcards will be returned to the Post Office for collection in September TBC.
Many thanks in advance, this is going to be great fun! Claire.
Art on a Postcard – Twinned with Fallowfield
There is a strong tradition of postcard art in the artworld and we would like Hatherleigh to be part of the action! To also be shown in Manchester at the end of July, then returned to you.
Paint, draw, print, sew, collage or write on a postcard. Make as many as you would like. Mosaic one, cut holes in it, jump on it – it is entirely up to you. They just need to be 15 x 10 cm in size (6 x 4 ins).
Open to everyone – the more the merrier.
The back can be the front – What is written on the back of the card may be way more interesting than the image on the front, you decide.
Reuse or alter an existing postcard, use a blank one or if you would like a heavy watercolour paper card, you may take a couple from The Pottery or The Post office. If you take them, please do decorate and return them.
We would love to see your favourite old post cards too, scenic, saucy, romantic or raucous. If you couldn’t part with a postcard or it has a poignant story and you are happy to share it, we will be pleased to show it. (these won’t go to Manchester).
**There will also be an exhibition of postcards from other artists and designers as well as vintage finds.

Artist Sketchbooks
Back by popular demand! For everyone who wished they’d taken part, please join us this year and for those who showed their wonderful books, please fill another! Provide your own sketchbook of any size, fill it with whatever you fancy and then show it during the Festival. Let’s fill the tables with Hatherleigh’s creativity and imaginative thinking.
Hatherleigh Open
Showcase your artistic creations! Painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, artist’s books, sculpture, ceramics. Please note we will not be showing textiles unless they can be wall hung (hopefully next year will be textile year). All work to measure under 30 cm framed or at its widest/longest side/width/diameter.
ALL wall hung work will need to be correctly framed, have appropriate fixings etc – see notes.
Take part in collaborative projects during the weekend including:
Artist Trading Cards
Make a card, then trade it for another one. A brilliant but simple idea ATC’s are made to be traded.
There will be tables for making and trading throughout the weekend. The made cards will be hung from strips to exhibit them. You add your card to the strip and take one away in return.
All materials provided as a drop in during opening times.
If you wish to make some in advance use a playing card or paper strictly 2.5 x 3.5 ins (64 x 89mm). Any medium or subject.
