From War Horse to Working horse: A History of the Shire Horse

7 July @ 5:00 pm 6:30 pm

Tea & Talk at Lower Upcott Farm

Arrive 5pm, talk starts 5:30pm

Join the festival team and local farmer, Ben May, for a fascinating look at the history of the Shire horse. From their time as war horses until they were the tractors of their time and now their place today on the ‘at risk’ register.

Meet these majestic animals up close, ask questions, and see how Ben continues to use their strength in sustainable, practical ways to maintain their relevance into the future. There will also be an opportunity for those who wish to have a brief tour of the market garden, all worked with the shire horses.

After the talk, relax and enjoy afternoon tea al fresco! (refreshments provided).
